Born in Odessa, Ukraine. Karin came to Israel on a Masa-Career program, to intern in the media field at channel 9, a Russian-language channel based in Israel, which serves as the main news source for Russian speakers in the country. The channel also has a large following internationally among Russian-speaking Jews, and even non-Jews who want reliable news about Israel. After completing the internship, channel 9 offered Karin a permanent position. Today, Karin hosts a daily four-hour current affairs program, which, since the war began has been running special broadcasts continuously. The show receives hundreds of thousands of live viewers on the program’s YouTube channel every day, with close to 400,000 subscribers.

MEET KARIN:

Tell us about Your Work:

For over two years, I have been working at Channel 9 as a news anchor and editor of a daily current affairs program. Covering important topics, hosting interesting guests for the Russian speaking and broader Israeli community, and exploring every relevant field – this is what I focus on most of the time. Additionaly, when needed, I also report as a correspondent on political and social events and produce stories on the subject.

What is your proudest achievement?

Since the outbreak of the war on October 7, I have been “on reserve duty” on the TV screen. For an full year, I anchored the news in a special broadcasts for four hours a day, and sometimes longer —even during my first pregnancy. We are watched all over the world by Russian speakers. The whole past year I’ve been doing high-level advocacy. I constantly receive feedback from all over the world. People approach me on the street and thank me for bringing them the news and information. People write to me on Facebook all the time, thanking me for providing real information, not the propaganda that is broadcast in other countries about what’s happening here.

How would you describe the impact of your Masa program on your life and professional path?

Thanks to Masa, I landed an internship at Channel 9, met my first husband and my current husband. I got to meet ministers and experts in almost every field in Israel, improve my Hebrew and skills, and gain deeper self-understanding and personal fulfillment. The internship gave me a lot of experience in the media field that I couldn’t have gained anywhere else. I felt like I was born to be Israeli. I loved Israel from the first moment, and I understood that my intention was to stay here. I’m incredibly grateful to Masa for changing my life.

Who is your role model?

Geula Even-Sa’ar (Israeli news anchor and journalist). Hopefully, one day, ill achieve her level of successes.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In political journalism or local/national government, working to influence and improve modern Israeli society.

What is your advice for young Jews around the world who want to make a difference?

Don’t be afraid of change! Just take the first step – sometimes planning is enough.
