About 100 participants of the “Masa Doctors” program from the countries of the former USSR have completed their studies and will soon take a qualifying exam. This was reported by the press service of the organization “Masa”. At the end of the program in Beersheba, young doctors received Israeli passports (teudat zeut) and diplomas. After a positive result in the qualifying exam, they will work in Israeli hospitals, clinics and in the IDF. The ceremony also announced that in the coming year, this leading program of the organization “Masa” will expand by 2.5 times and 250 doctors will take part in it. One of the program participants, Dr. Alena Kotelnikova (31) from Kazakhstan, came to Israel with her 9-year-old daughter. “In the beginning it was very hard– we studied Hebrew intensively and at the same time studied the Israeli healthcare system. Studying took a lot of time, and there was very little time left to pay attention to my daughter. But I am proud that I have overcome this stage, and I know that my daughter is also proud of me. I am glad that Hebrew is easy for her and she is integrating in Israel” – Alena says. Dmitry and Marina (28), a married couple from Russia who changed their last name to Sharon. He is a neurologist, she is a rehabilitation specialist. We took part in the program together. During the coronavirus crisis, both worked in coronavirus departments. “We studied together and dreamed of becoming doctors in Israel together. The heart told us that we should be here, and we are grateful for this chance. In Israel, people are truly free. After completing the program, I plan to be drafted into the IDF and become a military doctor, and my wife plans to work at the Soroka hospital in Beersheba. – Sharon said. Masa CEO, Ofer Gutman: “Expanding the program to train more physicians from all over the world every year is an important and strategic decision that has a positive impact on the healthcare system in particular and the state of Israel as a whole. Our graduates are repatriated and work in hospitals and clinics, serve in the IDF. We thank the government and EA “Sohnut” for supporting the Masa organization, and for contributing to the Masa Doctors program in particular. “Masa”, founded by EA”Sohnut” and the Israeli government, has been running long-term programs in Israel for young people from the Diaspora with Jewish roots for 18 years. One of the leading programs that has been running for 14 years — is a program to prepare certified doctors for the Israeli health care system and the local qualifying exam. The program was created due to a shortage of doctors in Israel. Therefore, thanks to the organization “Masa” about 100 Russian-speaking doctors came to study in Israel every year and about 90% of the graduates of this program are repatriated and integrated into the local healthcare system. From the inception of the program until today, about 1,000 new doctors have been integrated into our healthcare system. As already noted, in the coming year it was decided to significantly expand this program so that 250 doctors could participate in it annually.
