Who we are
Masa Israel Journey offers young adults between the ages of 18 and 30 immersive, life-changing gap year, study abroad, post-college and volunteer experiences in Israel, connecting them to programs that meet their interests, offering grants, needs-based scholarships and travel vouchers, providing expertise, and supporting them throughout the entire process.
Masa Israel is a joint project of the Government of Israel and the Jewish Agency for Israel that is made possible by the generous contributions of the Jewish Federations of North America and Keren Hayesod-UIA.
What we do
Masa Israel was established in 2004 with the vision that all Jewish young adults would have the opportunity to spend a semester to a year in Israel. We believe that long-term experiences in Israel can effectively shape and inspire the next generation of Jewish leaders and strengthen their connection to the Jewish people and to Israel.
Through our work, we have grown the number of individuals participating in such programs from a few thousand each year to over 10,000 participants annually.
How we do it
Masa Israel is governed by a 16-member steering committee, with representatives from both the Government of Israel and the Jewish Agency for Israel. Masa Israel staff and representatives work in partnership with program operators, community organizations, participants and alumni to help make it easy for thousands of young adults to have immersive Israel experiences.
Approximately 80% of Masa Israel's budget goes toward providing universal grants, needs-based scholarships and travel vouchers
to participants of affiliated programs to help alleviate the tuition burden. The rest of our budget is used for marketing, recruitment, program development and overhead around the world.
